As the conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces continued, the country's already exhausted economy suffered a significant deterioration. The widespread looting and destruction in the first months of the conflict brought most public and private production sectors to a halt, including major companies, factories and banks, and led to a decline in exports, especially agricultural and animal products.
Since the beginning of the conflict in mid-April, the government has not paid the salaries of workers in state institutions due to stagnant revenues, and salaries have been limited to the army and other regular forces.
